No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Two Pieces for high school level String Orchestra

Discussion in 'Critique & Feedback' started by Doug Gibson, Nov 5, 2017.

  1. A publishing company has asked me to write a few pieces for high school level string orchestra.

We recorded two pieces last weekend. This is the 1st one I called "In Memory of Ase".
It's in reference to the Grieg piece.

  2. Very nicely done. I really liked the ending.

  3. Very nice! :)

Misread the title at first, thought it said. In Memory of Arse.

I feel that the playing is really good for HS kids, no?

    Cheers.

  4. My first thought, too - high schoolers?! Very solid textural density for young 'uns, and nicely orchestrated.

  5. Oops !! I should have be more clear, and written a little more about this.

The publishing company (on very short notice !) asked me to write two pieces that they would "Market for high school string orchestras".
I was given a list of technical parameters I had to stay within. I blurred the line by giving the "concert master" a high register line.

The recording you heard was recorded in Bratislava by a professional group. I had 50 minutes with them and we went through the 6 minutes of material pretty easily.

Basically now they have the recording and score they are going to promote the sheet music to high schools.

Indeed, upon reading your comments, it would have been a kick ass high school group with a very nice hall and recording equipment.

Thank you very much for listening ! Appreciate it.

  6. John Eldridge likes this.
  7. Is there a way to purchase a "personal copy" from these sites that doesn't get used in orchestra, or is $60 more or less the going rate for sheet music? I always thought there was a difference between one used for distribution.
