1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. Absolutely beautiful!! Did you go to paper for this one before inputting it into Pro tools?

  2. Very nice, Mike.
Lots of cohesive melodic and harmonic twists and turns.
The Force is strong with this one.

  3. 1:25 F# maj to min - That's sexy!

  4. Hi guys - no paper, was just working on my template yesterday and played the cello line at the top, and it kind of went from there. Well, actually I did put 6 bars of it in Sibelius now that I think of it, to keep track of one particular voicing. But basically it was an improv - an 8 hour one. This was 8 hours start to finish, so not the fastest, but some of the moments balance on a pin head; one note either way and it doesn't work.

  5. 0:26, 0:40, 0:59 (and after that I lost count of the eyebrow-raisingly awesome reharms) this is so creative! Now this is how you tell a story in music...

  6. Some really wonderful moments there, including (for me) two solid "fuck yeah" moments at 0:40 and 1:09. 1:25 caught my ear as well, but it was really the whole transition from F#sus4 to F# to F#- that worked (with the descending middle voice).

    Really enjoyable listen, thanks Mike.

  7. Speaking of 1:09, what is that progression leading up to it? Starting at 1:04 it's a pretty straightforward Bb- and Ab. Following that sounds like A/C# and then to Bb/D. But I'm not sure about A/C#, where I feel more tension than just that, but my ears aren't able to pick out anything more to account for that tension.

  8. Nope, that's it... The voicing on that chord, being fairly low, adds bite, the way even a major triad has bite if it's low enough.

  9. Blown away... This is so good Mike.

  10. Great work, Mike!

    Quick Question...

When your quoting the 'Main Theme' at :55 - 1:02, I noticed you went up to the G, as opposed to the usual F/Tonic. Just wondering what was your reasoning for this small alteration?

Was it to satisfy a chord/harmonic voicing, create a different sensibility, something else?

  11. I just heard it that way - the Force Theme melody itself was being presently slightly differently as well in the piece so...

  12. Makes sense! It definitely sounds a bit more hopeful/lighthearted this way and seems to fit that particular section.

  13. This is hauntingly beautiful.

  14. Truly awesome work Mike, a pleasure and an inspiration as always!

  15. Another quick questions, when playing the section divisi parts, are you using sustain patches or are you playing them in separately with legato patches?

  16. Generally sus patches, but it's all a cheat, so whatever sounds best!

  17. Wow, that's really beautiful work!

And thank you for sharing the score too. Are you planning a live performance possibly or just "sharing the love"? Either way much appreciated.

  18. Hadn't thought that far yet, just sort of an impulse - putting feelers out to my studio friends and if they want to do it we will. But if we do of course we'd stream it and shoot it, etc. Actually, I could maybe offer that as a Masterclass, and put the class money towards it... That might work. Kind of a crowd funding type thing.
