1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. Well after being ill for half of June I finally got round to arranging this piece and would like some feedback of what I've done so far.

The guitar at the moment is just temporary. I hate using accoustic guitar VST's, I find them torture to work with. But it gets the basic idea across for when I get my friend to come in and play something better.

At the moment I'm quite happy with 0:46 onwards. But everything before that is maybe a little too plain? But I'm a bit stuck for ideas at the moment. I was wanting it to start off quite small until the 0:46 but I think the main problem is how robotic the guitar is just now. There weren't a lot of rhythms I liked in the VST so I'm hoping that when I get an actual player in they can do some nicer stuff with the guitar at that point and that will be all it needs.

I was also thinking maybe I should add a few bars at the start with just the guitar before the whistle comes in. Not sure if the intro right now is too abrubpt.

  2. This is pretty much perfect although I am not sure if drums fits well in to this genre. It make it sounds too modern while the introdction of the piece make you think of the old school scottish folkmusic. (This my not actually be a problem with the music just my opinion)
You are doing great. Keep going :)

  3. Thanks Bjarke. I was kind of going with the more traditional start and then kick it into modern day. I thought it really helps bring the piece to life a bit and maybe would help put a spring in someones step if they were to dance to it or walk while listening to it etc. I've just got out a no drums version, I'm curious to see what you think.

Also, you don't think the first half is a bit boring? Do you think it works bein that simple to start?

This was the kind of thing I was inspired by.

  4. i actually kinda prefer it with drums as you say it really helps to bring the piece to life. No drums does help make it more old school but with drums it give that section something extra.
I don't find the beginning boring. I think that one should be careful making music too complex it will just make it harder for the listner to follow so starting out simple is probably a good choice but if you want to do something more complicated I recommend studying some pieces which are in that direction.

A good piece to study would probably be liszt(underrated composer for film composers even though I believe he had a influence on film music such as Erich korngold so I think it would be good to study liszt) faust symphony S. 108. Listen to the last movement mephistoheles. It's pretty complicated in my opinion but at the same time it doesn't distract the listner to follow the piece.
