1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Russell Ferrante Lesson - Creating Harmony by Stacking Chords

Discussion in 'Tips, Tricks & Talk' started by Ste Brennan, Jul 4, 2017.

  1. We know how favourably Mike talks about Russell Ferrante and the Yellowjackets.

Well this is a great little lesson for anyone looking to add some richness to their harmony, the potential for filmic and dramatic application is huge.

I think a lesson like this is also very much in the spirit of Mike's masterclasses in that it takes what is sometimes a very simple concept but presents us with very beautiful results.

  2. Russell is such a huge influence on me. I like to pretend that there was a transporter accident like the one that split the captain into Good Kirk and Evil Kirk, only it produced me and Russell Ferrante. Not hard to tell which one is which.

  6. This is one of my favourite tunes by the Yellowjackets, arranged here for Bob Mintzer's Big Band.

  7. Yes my piano playing style is definitely in his direction and that is probably one of the reasons why I started watching all your videos and taking your classes Mike, I don't know why but I just gravitate towards that style of playing. Interesting Video!

  8. I remember coming across this video a while back. I love those voicings!
