1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

It's always the same old story... But it's unfair to blame amateurs who don't want to lose an opportunity, that's selfish. He should blame himself for not protecting them of being exploited.

  2. Actually, amateur or not, we get what we accept, not what we deserve. When people lowball themselves, they lowball all of us, but still, we can always remember we're a market of one; a unique product. If a client doesn't see us as uniquely valuable; if they see us as easily replaceable with any number of others; to me this disqualifies them as a client. There are a lifetime's worth of people who want you, and nobody else for the gig, and will pay you what you're worth if you demand it. You will not have time to find them if you're too busy working on projects for people who don't value you.

  3. Yes, that's how it works and you're perfectly right. But the one who's not confident, or who can't take the risk of not getting the job, or who just doesn't know. It is also part of the mechanics. Blaming the weakest for a system we're all involved, it's not only a shame, it's counterproductive. It's far worse than acceptance.
