1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. This is another one I wrote while I was stuck on that celtic piece. This one is inspired by some of my favourite RPG games like Baldur's Gate and Divinity Original Sin.

Probably leans into vertical development a bit much but hopefully still a fun little piece.

  2. Sounds cool!

At 1:15 from where to where did you modulate?
I was missing a bit of an Energy boost there and think another modulation might achieve this better maybe.

After your B section the A feels a bit repetitive. But that can be easily fixed by a meldoic variation if you want.other than that I think it's great!

  3. I dig it. I was going to comment that the samples are letting you down in places but then I remembered you use Aaron Venture with a breath controller? Maybe I'm hearing a performance issue as the brass in particular sounds like it has that artificial, fixed-swell kind of sound which shouldn't be an issue with your setup. Mix feels a bit heavy and muddy. I felt the harp gliss at 1:30 was very satisfying.

  4. I totally agree, I'm not doing the samples justice here for sure. Normally I do use a breath controller, but I was just messing around with this piece and didn't bother. I'm kinda wishing I did though cause clearly my control over the modwheel isn't as good.

At least this is showing me the breath controller was 100% worth it cause I think my stuff has sounded better with it.

I also agree about the mix. I tried re-jigging my template a bit to try and be a bit more efficient when writing but it does seem to need a bit of work on the mixing side.

It goes from Bm to Dm.

I agree. I tried adding a counter melody in the second time. Felt it made sense, but I was struggling to come up with a decent counter melody that didn't clash with the main melody here. Was going to try doing it on trumpets, but then I thought "doesn't that waste that colour? should I not save it for the end so we don't get burned out by hearing trumpets all the time?" and then I wasn't sure what instrument to use that would be able to hold on their own against the main melody.

  5. Ah, I guessed that it had to be a minor 3rd modulation.

Maybe try going up a wholestep instead, in case you want that energy boost there. I thought something with a bit of a kick would fit there quite well.

Maybe there are also other options for that effect.
