1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Mustang Flight

  1. Mustang Flight

I had three goals with this piece:

    1. Practice thematic development
    2. Write something based on a cue I was studying
    3. Cry over my sampled rendition of the piece

I think I achieved #3 at least. I won't say how I feel about it until people have a chance to give feedback.

  2. Man, How can you mix and write with all that goggles underwater?...:D
Joke aside. I really like the piece. A lot of cool vibes and heavy 80s flavor there. The ending is a bit strange though..it felt for me like you intended the piece to end at 2:21 min..but no..this feels for me like it. The intro and first 2 bars are mega cool. Man I wished you just repeated the first idea but make it bigger before you go into your main motif.
I need to listen tomorrow more to give you some more detailed feedback. But I heard some really nice things there.
The only downside sometimes the sound and articulation of the samples.

  3. This is cool!

What's going on in the beginning with the brass? You have horns L, and then even further L @ :14, you have some - what are those? Trombones? If so, why are they all the way over there? Or are those more horns, from a diff lib? Sounds funky... bet it's a sample thing more than anything.

    Cheers.

  4. Thanks for listening. Yeah, I'm fighting with samples. On the horns, I used the Spitfire 6 horns for the melody and switched to the 2 horns for the chords. Of course those would have different panning. I didn't notice until you pointed it out.

  5. Yeah, that orchestration is pretty much lifted (but inverted) from HTTYD. I thought someone would have called me out by now.
