1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Doctor Who Unscored

Discussion in 'Score Study Resources' started by Duncan Formosa, Dec 29, 2023.

  1. Just recently found out that someone has been going through and removing the score from Doctor Who episodes from the RTD era onwards. I figured I'd post the links here since it seems like a good idea for an exercise!

Might even be cool to see @Mike Verta do a score for this as a scoring 3 masterclass?

The links to all the unscored episodes can be found in the description of each video.

    Series 1

    Series 2,3, 4 and specials

    Series 5

    Series 6

    Series 7

    Series 8, 9 and 10

  2. The issue is that you can't score better than the inherent drama. New Who's got a lot of fans, but I think it's a quintessential case of nostalgia bump and grading on the curve. I grew up on the show, so I'll give it a ton of leeway, but... anyway if any of these you think are actually good, let me know and I'll take a look.

  3. Series 1-5 was pretty good from what I can remember. Beyond that point is when it starts to become what you described which is banking on a lot of nostalgia. Not to mention constantly under cutting the drama by adding jokes and doing the marvel thing which bugs the life out of me.

Personally, I love series 1 episode 6 which was the first dalek episode in the revival. That was the ONLY episode that made the daleks a force to be reckoned with. I think that one might make an interesting video but curious what you think.

There's a great scene where the doctor is in the room with it but the lights are out and he's unaware of what he's talking to until it speaks and you just see the look of sheer terror in the doctors eyes as he realises what he's trapped with.

  4. Okay if you can get me the video to sync the audio to, I'll rescore the Dalek episode in its entirety as a special Diamond class.

  5. Folks, if we're scoring a Dr. Who episode, it's gotta be Horror of Fang Rock (1977)!

  6. How did he get the episodes without a score?

  7. I imagine you could get pretty far using Demucs or another of the AI source separation tools out there.

  8. I know, I feel awful!...But damn the reactions are funny
