    EDIT:
Final version of the piece can be found here

I just finished a piano sketch for this little celtic piece. What does everyone thing? I think it will sound really nice when the whole thing is finished.

    Hey Duncan,

    I like this piece!
I however found the modulation at 0:50 a bit harsh.
Edit: At least on my first listening. I have listened to it three times now and it feels good now.

Also the one at 1:18 felt a bit weird, but maybe it's just me here. I will try to figure out what is bothering me here.
Edit2: What are you playing there a D over E? Maybe I'm expecting the A to resolve to the Ab then, because your basically hanging on a sus4? I'm not sure. But as I said maybe it's just me and I'm not used to that. But it felt a bit off for me.

Other than that it's really nice!

  3. I tried adding those chords to try and add a bit of tension so the piece wouldn't get too stale and hopefully keep the piece moving. Do you think it's too much?

  4. I'm really not sure. When I look at what you do it's totally fine, and when I repeatedly listen to it, both modulations are fine and welcomed. I think those two points just stuck out to me on the first listen because I wasn't bored of the idea yet and thus it felt surprising. You were moving the piece along even before that after all.

But I think, it was probably just weird for me on the first listening. I bet anyone else listeing to it will feel different.

  5. Loving it.

Definitely nails the Celtic vibe (almost expecting Celtic Woman to start singing lol).

Can't wait to hear the full-on fiddle-dee-dee potatoes version with Tin Whistle and such

  6. Agreed. On first listen that one stuck out.

The only other thing that stuck out was the low A's (?) around 0:54. It might sound pedantic but it felt a little out of place in the context of this being a sweet and gentle lullaby.

Done an update on this piece which can be found here, was trying to think for ages what instruments to use for this!

  8. Sounds very nice and very well done. I notice that there are diffrent sections and for each section a diffrent instrument have the role for the melody.
My suggestion would be to instead of only one instrument have playing the melody in the same section maybe give it to the diffrent instruments of course not over doing it but maybe just a little here and there.
Also instead of the same instruments having the same roles you could switch roles between instruments a little.
    Hope I was helpful.
    Great work.
