1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Film School 101 Stuff

Discussion in 'Info, Requests, etc.' started by John Robert Wood, Aug 5, 2017.

  1. Mike, as you know I was one of the few attendees and thought, as usual, it was a great class.
It's a topic that I'm least knowledgable so I appreciated all of your insights.
I agree that supplementing it with additional specific examples would be helpful.
Your suggestions to watch YouTube videos on shot composition etc. was a great idea but to actually see some of that during the class would have been a plus.
As you indicated, this is one of the least discussed and overlooked topics but one of the most important. I hope you reconsider posting this for future sales. From reading the other posts in this thread, it appears that the low attendance was due to circumstance and not because of a lack of interest.
You have a lot to offer in this area. Looking forward to Film School 102.

  3. Bummer...I would have been there but I have been traveling and have not had a chance to watch anything, let alone attend classes..i will purchase the film making class when available and if!! Sorry about the low attendance!

  4. I actually took part in this a class, all be it a little lateo_O thanks for everyone for helping me out. I found this class insightful and generally expected a bigger turn out considering the subject matter. I myself am kinda new to this
game but i believe Mike's insights on the inner workings of the industry are to be valued, in fact this class showed me how little i know when it comes to film. The information in this class has given me a greater appreciation to art of film making process.
Thanks Mike look forward to watching it again.

  5. Did you have a chance to upload it yet, Mike? I'm among those who picked it up before you pulled it, but I haven't gotten the email yet. Not sure if I was missed, or if you just haven't gotten to it yet.

  6. @Mike Verta I too am sorry that this class is not available. I was looking forward to purchasing the class and watching during my road trips tomorrow.

We actually have a good discussion going on on this very topic right here:

......Cough.......ahem........\/ critique my piece at the top of the thread \/.....cough.............

    https://redbanned.com/index.php?threads/oceanmaker-10-min-action-film-marvin-hamlisch-contest.106

A few of the members here have shared their tips for finding the critical dramatic undercurrents, pacing, being too "on the nose", finding the vantage point and so on. Two good youtube examples are also given. The thread has already been tremendously helpful. I'm already watching television shows and movies with a different eye for the drama and how to best serve it. A Mike Verta Masterclass on this very issue would be an invaluable part of our education on the topic.

I'm looking forward to Film School 102, and will be one of the first ones to grab 101 if you decide to make the original class available.

  7. The class is available in the store. My girlfriend and I (she's a writer/cinematographer/director/editor as well) are producing some additional follow-up materials which will be available here in the coming weeks.

  8. Great! Looking forward to receiving the password :)

  9. Great Mike look forward to it..

  10. Got the link! Thanks Mike.

  11. Purchased as promised. Thanks again, Mike, for putting this one back up for sale.

  12. Well I went back and looked at it, and while I agree there's plenty of opportunity to add more examples and stuff -which we're doing- the truth is it had more than enough stuff in it to keep one busy for months. So I put it back up.

  17. Just picked it up!

  18. Glad it's available after all, instant purchase. Thanks Mike.

  19. @Mike Verta This is one of my favorite masterclasses of all time, thank you so much for this one Mike and hope to see more like these in the future :)

This is a somewhat unrelated question but what monitor or monitors would you recommend for CAD or even visual effects work? I'm currently creating alot of content on AE/C4D and in need of an upgrade. Thanks!

  20. I recommend Eizos. I use them exclusively for my color critical work monitors - the CG series.
