No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

So... Mike has played this thing so many times. I had to get it out of my head and under my fingers.
The thing I'm talking about is arpeggio over sus4 chord right at the beginning of my sketch. The whole thing is probably a 90% ripoff of something, I just don't know of what.

I'm very slow, so this sketch took me about 1,5 hours to make.

What I'm wondering is, is it too much of a ripoff? Is it worth something in the state that it is, or should I trash it?

I'd really appreciate any feedback on the matter and/or about compositional aspect of the piece.

  2. 37 seconds in E natural against Eb is very very harsh for a piece based on simple diatonic harmony

  3. I wanted strong tension towards F. But I guess it makes more sense the second time, when it leads to minor, and less so at the beginning. I replaced the link with version with Eb instead of E against Eb at 37 seconds.

  4. I don't detect rip-off here, but I do understand that feeling. Seems worth pursuing.

  5. It is hard to detect that with your own music. What I did was I took that initial idea as a starting point to get into the vibe and built the piece as I thought it would be stylistically appropriate. It's hard to say what came out of my memory, and what was the original idea. But does it even matter?

If it didn't immediately strike you as something that you've definitely heard somewhere, then I guess it's fine.

  6. I'll leave it as is for another day or two, in case anyone has something to say about composition. After that I'll proceed to orchestration.
