Piano technique

Discussion in 'Tips, Tricks & Talk' started by Charles Roe, Jan 15, 2019.

  1. Howdy folks!

I’ve been playing, studying, and teaching guitar for 29 years(playing for 34) but stopped piano 15 years ago to study mandolin.

I’ve recently returned to piano, after years of not practicing it, as a tool to program in my DAW. Any book, video or other suggestions for developing technique, and getting my piano chops back? It’s not like I can’t play, but fingerings for certain things have been a stumbling block for playing music in a timely fashion.

    Thanks for any suggestions.

  2. If you can play but stuck with finger positions try Synthesia

  3. Is that a joke?

  4. Why would it be a joke ? Maybe I misunderstood your question ?

  5. Ok, what is Synthesia?

  6. Sorry, I looked it up. It might be good. At first I thought you meant synesthesia, and I thought you were messing with me.

  7. I'm not sure Synthesia is the best idea. I haven't used it and would appreciate info from anyone that has, but my suspicion is that it's sort of like guitar tabs, in that it shows you "how" to play the music, rather than what the music "is".

  8. It's supposed to get you looking at the sheet music while showing you what notes you should be playing for reference and which fingers you should be using for each note, again for reference

Unless you actually pay a tutor I don't really think there's any better way to learn, especially when you're trying to get your fingers correct

  9. Ah interesting, I didn't realize you were looking at sheet music at the same time. I thought it was more of a "Guitar Hero" kind of thing.
