1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

The Orchestra, break it down for me

Discussion in 'Tips, Tricks & Talk' started by Scott Steinmetz, Jul 6, 2017.

  1. This thing blew me away...I'm ready to plunk $ down this weekend.

Anyone own it and have anything negative to say, for a noob?

  2. Grabbed and installed. This thing is FUN.

  3. I haven't heard it, but anything musical described as "fun" has at least one important thing going for it.

  4. I have it, but I'm also a noob so I can't really comment on how much use it'll get in finished pieces.
As you've already mentioned Scott, it's really a fun tool to get things started with, though I think you will do yourself a disservice unless you try to reverse engineer what the plugin just did for you that made it sound cool. Can't rely on arps and patterns forever, so check out whats happening and try to see if you can learn from it.
As far as the samples goes, to my ear many of them sound good, not awesome but good, some others sound rather bad though, like the trumpets. Especially if you push it towards the end of the instrument range, then many of them start to sound a bit synth-ish.
The magical thing is however that the same samples can sound better in the multi patches, so layered I guess they work out better.

I personally don't see The Orchestra replacing any of the other orchestral libraries I have or want to have, but it's sure a great tool to "boot up" when you need some quick inspiration to get started!

  5. Yeah I've been having a blast with it the last couple evenings, just running thru things and trying combinations; I figured it'd be a good place to start.

Agreed on the samples sounding better combined, too.

I'll work on what you said, trying to dissect these things to see what sounds good.

Wish they had some more for perc though...headed out of town to work for a week, might have to grab Damage when I get back just for some big hits.

    Think they'd work well together.
