No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Bruce Broughton back in action!

Discussion in 'The RedBanned Bar & Grill' started by Mike Worth, Sep 3, 2017.

  1. Hi, all!

Just found out from Noam that Seth Macfarlane's new sci-fi comedy, the Orville, will not only feature a live TV orchestra (not surprising, Seth is a long time supporter of live orchestra and golden/silver age scoring), but that Bruce Broughton is hired to compose for the series.

That. Is. Awesome. Huge fan of Silverado, Homeward Bound, and Tombstone. Bruce is a legend. I'm hopeful this will be yet another ping in Hollywood to put resources towards live musicians. Plus, the idea of Bruce scoring a Seth Macfarlane sci-fi action/comedy... gives me the happy vibes!

  2. That is great news. It will be great to hear what Broughton comes up with for the series. This is especially nice to hear after the Simpson's supposed dumping of their live orchestra.

  3. I also heard that Joel McNeely might be involved, can't confirm that however...

It might be worth tuning into just for the score ;) I watched the very silly, ill-fated show The Cape just for the score by Bear McCreary!!

  4. It wouldn't be a surprise. Joel McNeely has been involved in a lot of Seth's projects. The show looks like it could be pretty funny. I'll definitely be tuning in, at least to check out the score ;)

  5. And I sat through the stomp on your crotch awful "Ten Million Ways to Die in the West" just to hear Joel McNeely's score in context after listening to it on its own. Good stuff.

  6. Man, that score by Bear is *tight!*. Fun story; I used that score to break the ice when I met Bear at GDC. We were at an audio party, and I told him how my wife and I loved his main theme. Bear was pretty surprised I actually knew the song, and we ended up chatting for about 20 minutes. Nice guy, good composer, much shorter than I am. :)

  7. Here is the theme for the show someone posted on YouTube.

  8. Bruce Broughton just wrote the main theme AFAIK. Joel McNeely is scoring the rest of the show.

  10. According to IMDB it looks like John Debney is involved as well.

  11. Loving the music! The TNG act outs, the Horner "danger theme" motif, great stuff.
