No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Hammond B-3/XK-5

Discussion in 'Current Gear' started by Mike Verta, Aug 15, 2017.

  1. I came up just as B3s were being considered passe and replaced by synths, but in the last year or so I've had opportunity to do more B-3 work and have come to regard and them and respect them as truly separate and unique instruments. It's also a field I have essentially zero experience in. I can work my way around them, but in terms of mojo, I'm the basest of beginners.

This for me is actually really exciting. I've decided to really dig in and get some legit B-3 chops, and it's cool to have so much to learn and the resources to learn it. Definitely setting playing a Sunday service at a couple churches on my goal list. 2020. Maybe by then. Anyway, not sure I'd spring for a 1958 B-3 unless I could really say I'd earned it and would treat it properly, but I've been listening to the XK-5 and it seems pretty legit...

    Any B-3 masters among us?

  2. A good friend of mine took a pretty deep dive on this. Bought the Nord C2D. Hth.

  3. Did he say why?

  4. At great length, but I kind of glazed over. He's a font of information on this stuff. If you like I'll message you his contact info. He does like to nerd out on it

  5. Actually, I would be most interested to hear what he has to say!
