No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Here's a short little piece that I wrote the other night. Hope you enjoy it!

and here's the score. Still trying to find my way around writing all this down so if any of it is messy and could be more efficient please let me know.

  2. the music sounds really good but my main concerns are releated to the sheet music. For example i am sure that horns are scored without keysignatures(correct me if i am wrong) And you have added a lot of instruments you don't use such as english horn and bassons and also the music doesn't fit the page.
My recomendation is to do a lot of score reading. Either by buying scores or study on imslp and get really good with your notation software.

  3. Oh yeah! I completely forgot to take those instruments out. I think I was planning on using them at first cause I was transcribing the piece 4x4 from the back to the future score from Omni music publishing and was going to try mimic a part with the bassoons and English horn but then thought it wasn't needed in this case.

I just left musescore to add the key signatures on the instruments so I'm not 100% sure. Why do horns not get a key signature?

I need to figure out how to format the pages on musescore it seems so it all fits. I was looking at it in continues view rather than page view

  4. In the 1st example the piece is in the key of D major, and Horns/Tpts/Timp. are already tune in D so they don't need key signature.
In the 2nd example the piece in in the key of F major, and those horns are also Horns in F.

  5. Hmm, I have seen a few articles now where it does mention that some horn players don't like having key signatures for some reason. Not sure if it's standard though. Are there any other problems with the sheet music? I think the notes are right but I'm not sure if the dynamic markings are messy?

  6. Haha, funnily enough, the first half sounds exactly like the piece I'm working at atm. ^^ I think it sounds pretty nice. Mike might disagree, but I think as a composer you should formost be concerned with the end product, the sound. Which is very nice here. And it's playable, yes. Leave the rest to copyists, unless you have to prepare the sheet music for the players yourself. It's good to know this stuff, but not a priority. From a composing standpoint, I think the piece could be longer, if it's supposed to be a standalone piece. But as a "reprise" of a theme, it's perfectly fine.

  7. Was trying to mimic a track from back to the future here as I've been transcribing from that a lot with the omnimusic publishing book. Just thought I'd take what I learned for a spin. I think maybe at some point I will extend it, I've got a few ideas for it...Having said that I have a habit of saying I'll do something then get side tracked with another project. A few months ago I said I would write a string quartet piece which I sitll haven't done!
