1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  2. Welcome! I haven't been terribly active on here as of late but this is an excellent place to come to improve your craft. Just be aware that while people here are constructive and generous with their time, they're also not shy about honest constructive criticism. You'll have to go to the VI Control forum if you're just looking for pats on the back.

I like the overall mood. It's refreshing to hear younger composers attempt styles other than Zimmitation. @Doug Gibson will likely be a more helpful individual stylistically than me.

I think what I'd like to see first is if you can confidently handle simpler motifs. Two listens in and I'm finding it hard to pick up any obvious motifs other than in a handful of places, though I can tell they're there. You did a good job passing ideas between sections, and there are some parts where the repeated ideas jump out well (i.e. 1:00), but I'm having some trouble picking out the "story". How does the ending tie into the beginning?
What Mike talks about in (if I recall correctly) his Structure class is that generally speaking, the more complex the idea, the more it requires repetition in order for the audience to "get it". This is less true for simple ideas.

I can hear your initial idea and how you varied it as well, which is an excellent start, but I think your samples are also letting you down. I haven't figured out if it's an orchestration thing or not yet, but it sounds like everything is at FF for a good chunk of the piece and it makes it difficult to pick out which section one should be paying attention to at times. Might just be these speakers though too, I'm not in my studio currently.

I'd like to see some piano-only pieces if you have them.

    PS: What's M.A.P.A?
