"Goblin Dance" for piano

Discussion in 'Critique & Feedback' started by Robert Jeter, Jun 12, 2021.

  1. Hello!
This is my first time posting one of my compositions on this forum: "Goblin Dance" for piano (it's a very short, repetitive piece)
    I welcome all comments.

This almost made me not click play. But I did and I'm glad of it, a very nice little piece.

  3. Thanks, David!
I should probably avoid self-destructive descriptions of my pieces if I want my work heard... Lesson learned! (hopefully)

  4. I really liked it! I love the way it develops and the balance of articulation - I teach a lot of piano and many of my students would really enjoy this to play!

Hi Robert! E4 in the first bar you have doubled in both hands. ;)

You may consider writing it like this...

Also, an idea for more independently moving voices may add some additional interest and make it a little less repetitive:

Another option to bring out the accents, more polyphony, and a bit more difficult to play.

  6. Stephen, thanks for the suggestions!
I intentionally doubled the E4 in both hands to highlight the parallel 3rds in the LH and help balance the RH to prep the E in m. 2.
Although I should probably add parentheses over some of them, I do play it with both thumbs on the doubled Es.

I do like your harmonic variations on the half note!

If you are interested in a printer friendly copy you can find it attached.
My "Goblin Dance" is modeled after Grieg's "Elfin Dance," Op. 12 No. 4, so students could benefit from learning both!
