1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Big Band Scores Resources

Discussion in 'Score Study Resources' started by Marko Dvojkovic, May 12, 2021.

  1. I am looking for big band score resources. I found out about https://www.kendormusic.com/cc6/ from Mike's jazz masterclass but are there any others? Some free stuff, if it exists, would be great to get me rolling.

Generally I am really more concerned about how the orchestration is done, because I think I couldn't learn it and do it without seeing at least one score. So yeah, I thought about what are my absolute weakest points and would love to do something about it. I obviously have to do a lot of just listening also but would love to have a lot of resources then so that I can hopefully find pieces that caught my ear and study them.

    Thanks!

  2. You could get a book called “Inside the Score.” It has full scores of excellent big band charts and analysis, with recordings.

As for deep catalog of big band charts, I buy from the link below. Most prices are cheap. They send you download links to the pdf's pretty soon after you purchase. Some arrangements are score only, parts only, or score and parts. The parts only versions are a pain in the neck because you have to copy the parts into your own notation app to reconstruct the score, but I've done that once.
