Just finished laying down everything for my kinda 80's track. Looking for some new ears to take a listen and get some feedback. Hope you enjoy it!

Also want to give another thanks to Alan McGeoch for playing the guitar parts in this track again.

  2. Hey Duncan! Let's give some feedback :D

First of all, I think it's a great tune for an 80's TV show, I like the vibe and the melody, but for my taste the ending with solo piano and slowing down the tempo is kind of nostalgic and it doesn't quite fit with the rest of the piece. You already have a quiet part when the piano is playing the melody, and at 1:35 you create a nice build up for coming back to a full chorus, but for me it wasn't that satisfying. I was expecting something like a half tone modulation for refreshing and give more energy, like in this theme (and many others):

I hope it makes sense and that it is of some help.
    Cheers!

  3. Interesting, I thought that the contrast might have been a nice change of pace and give it a bit of contrast. Felt that when the piano switching to the melody was a nice change of colour but didn't give it enough contrast to keep it interesting. I'll have a play with the ending and see what I can come up with.

  4. "Kinda 80s" - "Alota 80s". Really solid work there and the live sax really sells it. Possibly the only thing that distracted me was at 1:04 when the band drops out for a couple of beats during the piano section - whilst I get that's a perfectly typical device to use for this kind of arrangement, the placement and execution of it comes through as a little awkward. Maybe a couple of short drum fills would punctuate it better and in terms of execution and better placement would be at the end of the piece or at 0:50 as the introduction to the piano section for example?

  5. I agree it feels odd to me as well, but I wasn't sure what to fill it with. I'm trying to learn how to come up with drum lines still as I don't play the drums.

Interesting you should say that...it's not a real sax. It's from infinite woodwinds by Aaron venture. Used the breath controller to add dynamics, vibrato and growl at some points.

  6. That's not a real sax..?! I gotta get me a breath controller then (maybe some better sax samples too).

I've done a quick mockup of that particular section just to have a mess around and see I what I could come up with if it were me doing this arrangement. I'm certainly not a drummer either and that's why I keep my drum parts really simple, usually with just some kick snare and the occasional tom / cymbal. Anyway have a listen and see what you think...
