1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. right, so that probably isn't it.

I just got an email cause you posted in the other thread btw ;)

  2. Oh? Is that a GOOD thing?

  3. no, but the irony...

Btw. I checked one last thing because i suddenly remembered:
Under settings I have 'automatically watch threads...' turned off already, so that's not it either..

  4. OK, so here is a "quoted" post.

    Did you get an email?

  5. And here is a @T.j. Prinssen "mention" post.

    Did you get an email?

  6. Nope, no emails for this thread Andre.
I got one for your post in the 'feedback q&a' thread though

  7. Can you verify and click that little thingie above the thread? (Officially watch this thread).

  8. with or without email notifications?

this thread is not currently being 'watched' but what's that got to do with email alerts for mentions/quotes?

  9. So, if I just ignore the emails and DON'T click the link inside to go directly to the thread, the email alerts should stop coming?

  10. If the thread is not being watched, then I'm not sure mentions/quotes would be sent to you. Can you try it? We already know you do not want emails when other members post a reply, so let's see if this works for mentions/quotes?

Let me know when you enabled "watch thread."

  11. That is the assumption, yes.

  12. I had it turned on before you replied but 'without email notifications'.
Let's try that now.. can you quote/mention me. ?

  13. Here's a quote.

  14. Ok, both of those worked Andre (i got 2 emails).

  15. Yes that's great!

    Not there yet though:
    - Threads get 'watching' status automatically (sometimes) and apparently stay like that if you click the forum link in the alert email.
(even if you have 'automatically watch threads..' turned off in preferences).
I'm not sure that's something you can fix..

    - Mention/Quote alerts only come though if you're 'watching' the thread (not sure if this is really a problem but it's not logical)

  16. We did cancel "automatic" alerts when you post a reply. Not sure if this applies to if you START a thread.

Seems to make sense to me. It enables all alerts, and since you disabled receiving alerts for posts, you still get alerts for mentions/quotes.

  17. Allright, that should fix it hopefully and when you start a thread you can pick how you want to be alerted anyway..

No alerts for mentions/quotes are being sent UNLESS i watch the thread first.
That doesn't make sense to me, i'd like to get them regardless

  18. Seems logical, from what I gathered:

1- you can opt-out from receiving certain types of alerts like posts, which you did.

2- some alerts are opt-in via "watch thread."

3- once you opt-in you will receive alerts for posts, mentions and quotes.

As I understand it, it's called respecting members choices for privacy, that way they cannot get them regardless. It has to be activated, and watching a thread seems to be the only way.

Some limitations cannot be removed/fixed. If I encounter an addon that goes around that, I will let Mike know.

    Hope this helps,

    Andre
