Just a little ditty I wrote today.
Woke up, thought about writing some music for Halloween, and voilà!

Not the most original thought. Please let me know if you find this easy to follow, and if you
think it is worthy of continuation

    UPDATED VERSION BELOW

  2. This was really fun to listen to. I found it easy to follow to answer your question, especially because of your clear orchestration passing the motif along.

Up to you good sir if you want to continue. :D

  3. How it starts and where it goes gives me the feeling that I'm in the middle of a piece. It's the solo part that come after memorable things have been heard and before they gonna be heard again. It can be based on the main melody but it's not it. My brain can't percieve this as the main melody nor as an introductive solo. Maybe it's my brain, maybe not. Of course, it worth to be continued but it also need to be started with a simpler, more memorable theme that hook you instantly.

  4. Ding, Ding, Ding.......correct answer ! Bingo. Go make yourself a coffee mug, you bad ass.

So I took your advice. I basically took some shortcuts to piece everything together. There are details I would definitely add if I was looking to make this an actual piece that gets recorded. I just playing around. The ending is junk...total cop out. It has made me want to transcribe some of Carl Stallings works. I know he is a giant, and everyone is aware of him, but I have never sat down and transcribed his works.

This very much reminds me of his work. Ripping a few tunes but finding way to spice them together.

    Here is the UPDATE:

  5. Wonderful fun! I really enjoyed this! You gotta love that trombone gliss(es). How in the heck do you spell a plural of gliss? Great piece. You should do an entire album of this sort of thing.

  6. Glissi? Like octupi? I don't think it's an oft used word.

  7. Thanks Paul ! It was just a spontaneous idea. I did have fun, and certainly a different mind-set for writing.
Instead of avoid cliches, the more the better !

You are on the right track. Gliss. is an abbreviation. The full word is Glissando and the plural is Glissandi. (has an E sound rather than i )

  8. Yes.
He's the man. A great thief (which I mean as a compliment!), but I love his work.

Glad you took Sylvain's advice and put a melody on the head of the chart and did some repetition for the form. I love the tropes of spoons or xylophone (rattling those skeletons in my closet), the harpsichord for the eerie baroque feel, and the farting low reeds (goblins and ghouls dance in delight).
Spot on. I love that you took the time to enjoy being hokey - and it is great because it is all in good fun. I think audiences respond to that too when you let them enjoy the moment. Cheers and Happy Halloween to all.
