1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. I have his book, "Scoring the Screen." It's great.

Don´t know him really but the page doesn´t look appealing to me in fact a bit chaotic to say at least and cheap. I mean it has for me a bit style of marketing pages which I got as junk mail telling someone how to make 1 Million dollars in a week. When I click on his introductory video the stream often just freezes which probably has to do with the great server streaming hosting. Chapeau.. ::D The most important info what you get makes the least present part of the page whilst the biggest part of the page are the fb reviews from random users which are presented also with all that red markings to highlight the comments which is all over the place. I don´t know, just as a first look it doesn´t make me personally excited. If he is that good why he features famous composers names and reviews instead of telling a bit more about what you get in the course? And I don´t say that because this forum is hosted by Mike.

  3. This is a bit sneaky indeed. All the famous composers quotes are about the book (which is fantastic), not about the online course.

I have nothing but respect for Andy Hill but my guts tell me to be careful about this. I'll stick to the book :)

Maybe its just the online presentation which I feel is a bit not to my liking. And while reviews are truely ok, they should imo not make the majority of the content of the page but the real content is missing or taking a very small place. When I would do it, I would eliminate those atrocious red marked fb comments, add more infos about the content and also present from the lessons a few 2-3 minute snippets. And the page needs a redesign oerhaul to put it mild. :D

Plus..I would eliminate the counter on the left lower position..its most hilarous to me because who the fuck cares how many people and who visits the page? Yeah, random dude bought the course 1 day ago from Alaska.. :D I don´t. But thats just bad marketing again.

  5. I'm a one-on-one student of Andy's and I can tell you he's legit. Widely versed in film music and it's history, and very sensitive to drama and narrative. He tends to put less emphasis on compositional nuts & bolts (though he knows his onions there, too), and concentrates more on dramaturgical perspective, which is where we should all be living anyway. I'm a fan.

  6. Interesting comments. I wonder how one can be sensitive to drama and narrative without compositional skill? I do have the book, and it is interesting and well written. I did find it difficult to draw general conclusions that would help in my own composing.

I am also studying "Hollywood Harmony" by Frank Lehman. I like the book because it is highly focused on harmony, and how harmony conveys emotions.
