1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. I ended up with a little more than a weekend to do all the sound design, music, and mixing and realized that to be seeding the Predator soundtrack from the very beginning I was going to need some string stuff - so I ended up using strings, too. If we continue the live masterclass series I'm definitely going to do one that's percussion/woodwinds/brass to show what's possible and why so many of those old TV scores were done like that.

  2. Yes, that would be awesome - Even though nobody uses that type of ensemble anymore...

  3. It's too bad you're not credited anywhere.

  4. That would give a him a career to speak of and the Hans quote wouldn't be valid anymore.

  6. Man! I can't believe how good that sounds in mono - Just a great proof that sound doesn't matter as long as the music's there.

  7. What is the Hans quote ? :D

That's cool ! Thank you Mike.

  8. NO! I was disappointed at the end, when it stated that it was just a fan-made trailer for a non-existent movie. It was a ridiculous story, and I mean that in a good way - I love this kind of stuff. Mike nailed the style and aesthetic for the video.

  9. "A brilliant composer with absolutely no career to speak of."

  10. When I try to explain mike verta to my non musician friends, and why his opinion matters - they are often confused. "well what has he done". Makes me think about mike's story about ghost writing, then I get sad, then I get angry, then I remember why I kept composing purely a hobby. Still - that quote coming from HZ is like... I couldn't imagine being mike in that scenario... I'd probably just look at drake and tell myself that I'd rather see him go to prom than the inside of a prison cell in the next handful of years in my life.

that said, mike also willingly seems to not want to put his name on stuff, maybe incase it bombs or maybe he just doesn't want to be associated professionally with parodies or something... I'd be pretty proud of that cue... very quaint, awesome to hear it worked out for you mike, very fitting.

  11. I didn't "not" put my name on it... it was just a favor for my oldest client (20 years, now) - he typically features me in materials for his films, with interviews and articles and whatnot, so it's nothing disrespectful. It might even be in there. Look for マイケル・バッター

In any case, I've worked successfully in advertising for enough decades that I've come to appreciate letting the natural, versus forced, flow of interaction with my work be a thing. Trust me, I know how to carpet-bomb a thing into being; it's soulless and manipulative and I'm really good at it. So, balance...

  12. I wasn't thinking about giving Mike more renown. But if someone notice the writing and want to know more about it, he/she gonna miss everything Mike can say or teach or defend, etc.

  13. Well I appreciate that :). For sure, let's get more composers in here !
