1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Live Symphonic Brass - NOW AVAILABLE!

Discussion in 'Classes & Discussion' started by Mike Verta, Jan 24, 2018.

  1. All booked. Keen to see more of this in the future.

  2. Damn you lucky Californians, those 'All Access' seats are a bargain...!

Yes this sucks, definitely am not planning on getting a credit card (in this lifetime if I can help it).
I'll see what I can do but worst case scenario I'll have to grab it after the fact (unfortunately that doesn't help your campaign)

No worries Aaron, apparently no-one thought to check so that's on all of us.

  3. I just went with the Orchestra seat as I saw the number of VIP seats was limited, and I felt others could probably ask smarter questions of live musicians than me. But I'll check back in a couple weeks and donate extra if we're at risk of not meeting the goal, because I definitely want this class to happen.

  4. Looking forward to this!!

  5. @Mike Verta in your video you said the top two tiers get access to the pre-show, but on Indiegogo the Orchestra seat (not among the top two tiers) indicates access to the pre-show. Which one was an error?

I want to make sure I'm in on the pre-show, is all. :)

  6. In the video I actually said there was one more top-tier - the $200 all access one, but I didn't really count it cuz there's only 5 tickets. So yes Orchestra seat gets pre-show and you're covered.

  7. Actually same here. I went with the Orchestra ticket just because I felt that I'm not yet on the level where I can ask significant questions. Right now only questions that come to my mind are "Hey Trumpet/Trombone/Horn/Tuba Player! What's you're favorite piece to warm up." But I also consider buying another ticket just to support this project.
BTW 12 hours in and 20% of the goal is already reached. Let's hope It won't lose momentum!

  8. The truth is it's going to cost closer to 10k to put on, but the six will cover the musicians, and so I set that number just to make sure it happens (they really want to do it) and they get paid. But the opportunity is so insanely great and the buy-in is such a bargain I'd be surprised if we didn't go over. I've been sending a link out to all sorts of people just letting them know if they're a fan of orchestral music, at the very least they're getting a chance to watch one of the best ensembles in the world perform.

  9. Hey Mike, I'm sure you will have them record your fanfare, but that wont take 3 hours to get it perfect, Not for brass players. What else are you going to have them play?

  10. Oh, I'm writing a bunch of short pieces to illustrate various issues, for sure.

  12. count me in. All signed up.

Too bad I don't live in LA, or I would have signed up for the afterparty. I would have seen how many people I could get to hit the strip clubs.
It's for the best however. The same thing happens to me every time. Suddenly Kid Rock's music sounds good, I get drunk, and on my way to the bathroom I see a glow............... ATM. Ahhh!! Bad ATM. What are you doing here ? You should not be here.....but I am kinda glad you are........ you know........ I might just sneak over and take out $150. Put card in ATM.......boom ! Friends hand suddenly on my shoulder. "Dude, I have the worlds largest favor to ask. I get paid next week, and don't have any money. Can I borrow $50?" Sigh....... sure. $500 and 12 hours later waking up on a couch I never seen before with a cat staring at me.

  14. Sweet! I just bought my ticket. Sadly I'm geographically ill-disposed to attend in person on in real time but I'm sure I will thoroughly enjoy this on the download. Shame, I bet the after party will be killer.

  15. Ditto Doug and Sharma's comments, would've loved to be there for drinks and shenanigans. Hopefully you'll do another and I'll get a passport in the meantime...

  16. So in. So excited!

  17. Yes, it would have been great fun, but its a rather long drive from Yorkshire to LA.

If this is a success for Mike (and I pray that it is after all his efforts) and Mike does a strings session, then I'd definitely really try and fly over for it.

Have we got a date yet ? I have to go to Sierra Leone in March (date for that TBC also), but now I've booked a VIP ticket I'll bet I end up with the dates clashing.

  19. Hi all! First post on this forum. The moment I saw this I instantly went for the top tier. Glad I live in LA to be there in person :)

    Can't wait to meet everyone!

  20. Glad you can make it - first of many, I suspect! :)

By the way, everyone - the union is putting this out as part of its newsblast, and the players are passing things onto their students and faculty heads at university, etc. It is a chance not only for us to learn, but for people who like orchestral music to get a rare glimpse behind-the-scenes of some of the world's best players reading and rehearsing their performances. We're a pretty tight group here - this forum especially - and this is a chance to go wider with what we do. It helps increase our perceived value as well (read: more money), so if you know people outside our thing who might enjoy it, pass on that link! Share it on Facebook, Tweet it out, put up a Batsignal! If we go over, the extra money will go towards production and future live shows.
