1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Anyone pick up BWW Revive

Discussion in 'Tips, Tricks & Talk' started by Gharun Lacy, Nov 18, 2017.

  1. Hey, I've been anxiously waiting for Cinematic Studio Series to release their woodwind library then OT hit us with this. The addition of the alto flute is huge for me since I've been making due with an 8Dio alto but it's tone is sooooooo different than my standard BWW lib that it is a pain to mix and blend.

Anyone pick this up yet? Let me know your thoughts. I'm still going to wait for CSS but this is on my radar.

  2. CSS Brass were supposed to be released early this year so I guess CSS WW is for 2042. But I really like CSS stuff so I'll be patient (actually, if I had money, I'd buy a new ww lib right now).

  3. What Lib are you using now? I have to say, I'm pretty happy with BWW. CSS WW would have to really blow me away for me to switch. I just know the lib pretty well.

  4. I'm using Hollywood Orchestral Woodwind Gold from the Composer Cloud but I would like to replace it by a Kontakt libs wich would be simpler to use. CSS philosophy is great for that and I love it. But CSSWW won't be released soon so I could give a try to another lib like I did with Adventure Brass because CSSB isn't released yet. But man, all this stuff is so expensive...

  5. No doubt! That's why I have three side hustles to fund this composing addiction.

  6. Not interested. I picked up BWW when it was on sale, and I'm sticking with that for the time being. But, I customize all my Kontakt libraries, open them up and tinker with them, so I hate buying new libs, 'cause I don't see "new shiny toy", I see, "oh, crap, here's another 10 instruments I have to spend 2 weeks programming."

I love the tone of BWW, but my thought is, is the new version;s tone and sound SO much better than the old (minus scripting, which I delete anyways), that I need to get it? If the answer is no, which is often is, I pass.

Just the opinion of one grumpy old midi warrior... ;)

  7. Do you have some (video) examples somewhere, where you show how you customized your Kontakt libraries? I have a bunch of libraries which have have a great sound and not so great scripting. And since I also really LOVE to tinker with stuff I always wanted to learn Kontakt and build my own instruments from the ground up with some of them, but never got around to get started so far. Should also be great practice for potential custom libraries in the future.

  8. Yep! Actually, I do this semi-regular thing on my youtube channel (called Farkle Fridays) where I riff and talk about DAW stuff, transcribing, composition, etc. I'm going to be doing one on customizing Kontakt libraries in the near future; when it goes on, I'll ping this thread, let you guys know. It's usually about 3 PM Eastern (New York City) time on a Friday.

  9. I definitely went through the walkthroughs and I think the flutes and the clarinets are the strong point of revive (for me). Apart from that: The whole concept is dumped down into a trashcan for me because they produced more confusion with that new library, which wants to be what? It is not only an update, but a new library not really or somehow some sort of, but then again..not really because it is not sold seperately but advertised as "an update" or more..They didn“t really know what to do for but had the best intentions. I would have wished that they toss BWW and keep the orignal on their page, and started a new library BWW2 development. While I love the sound of the flutes and the clarinet I am not going to throw 600 Euros at them just for flutes and clarinettes..also considering that I have enough other libraries covering winds.

  10. Good Stuff, Mike. I just subscribed.

  11. Ah, thanks, Gharun! There's one FF where I transcribe 8 bars of Tales of a Jedi Knight, then check it against the actual score from FilmScoreAnalysis. It's fun, if you like to see how I suffer through transcription. :) I explain how I attack a piece, how I transcribe, etc.

  13. I really like the sound of the BWW and the concept of completely separate patches for Flute 1 & 2, Oboe 1 & 2, etc. My biggest issue is not the money but the potential inconsistencies. I now use VSL Woodwinds I & II, full libraries and I am confident in using them. The sound is good, but not as "alive" as what I am hearing with BWW. I love the VSL VI Pro sample player with it's limitless customization options and fantastic humanization features. Would better sound be worth giving up VI Pro and putting up with more time spent massaging the midi data? I'm not sure.

I am hoping VSL accelerates their own entries in the "wet" market. Once I get a chance to try out Synchron Strings I, which should be released any day now, I will then know whether it is worth waiting for VSL to come out with new WW and Brass libraries.
