1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. ... who watched this one twice?

  2. I've watched the first 3 hours twice... ;)

I still have to get through the last 5. Not because it's boring (in fact, the opposite). but because I have to stop and try something out, a mix technique, a quick transcription, etc. It's sooo loaded with good stuff! :)

  3. I'm glad it's been useful. I still get the shakes thinking about that gig.

  4. Mike, I had a gig where I had to do 12 minutes of orchestration (from piano sketches written by another composer) and Midi mockups in 7 days...and I pulled an 80 hour week for that. I remember being terrified of the "sheer volume" of music. To see you crank out 80 minutes, compose/orchestrate/synthestrate, in one week, is beastly, to say the least.

You're a machine, Mike, you earned every penny of that low rate. :)

BTW, I helped your PRO royalty; Sarah and I Watched ID last week (Amazon Video). It's a ton of fun; sheer Independence Day knockoff, but your score is dramatically really solid, and you nail the hit points... all the more impressive for cranking out 10 min a day.

And yours and Laura's various Jet Pilot death scenes... they made me smile. :)

  5. Yeah, those were fun to do. I don't know if I mentioned (probably did) but since I directed and did all the VFX for those jet sequences, it was a ton easier to score because I knew them inside and out, to the frame. I must have mentioned it, but yeah, when I think about the film, that day bouncing around in the back of the pickup truck shouting at people "They're on your left! They're behind you! You can't see them!!" is what I remember.

  6. I watched the first hour, then looked up the movie and watched it together with my Fiancée, then watched a good part of the rest. There is so much stuff in there, that I have to watch it more than once.

Chapeau for that crazy performance and output. So many gems in there.

  7. I did a silly thing yesterday and applied for a job which is writing a 90 minute feature Documentary. Deadline end of July. Probably won't get the job but if I do, well, haha! I shall think back to what I learnt in this Masterclass and become the machine I always meant to be! ;)

  8. Do you have any masterclasses on visual effects? I'm constantly floored by your visual work and was wondering if you had anything describing your process behind that.

  9. Not yet but a whole series is coming on that and filmmaking, actually...!

  10. That would be absolutely amazing. I did a crash course in editing in Final Cut the other day and know very little but I would 100% buy a course on film making.

  11. I've nearly got through it, but I keep rolling back and re-watching bits so it's taking a while! So many gems in there and I'll be doing a full run through (with a note pad this time) again for sure. The whole rice crispy thing cracks me up every time lol.

Wow awesome!! Looking forward to that. I've watched this masterclass 4-5 times completely, and I personally feel it's the best scoring master class out there.

  13. Would love to watch this one again, but I've lost the link to the recording...

  14. I'm waiting for a whole free day and a supply of beverages to watch this one.

  15. This was amazing. I took 7 pages of notes. Such a great education on getting it done. You've talked about repetition and modulation many times, but this really drove it home. Thank you.

  16. Same here, still haven't finished it.

    Any updates on this Mike?

  17. So much to do, so little time. But I've actually laid out the syllabus for the first 10 classes... plus there are other things in the works. Just stay tuned :)
