No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

  1. This would be a slightly more expensive class - $60.

    It would consist of:

    • A harmonic and structural analysis of the piece being recorded, "Tears of a Jedi."
      An orchestration and notation breakdown
A discussion with conductor Neal Desby on his approach to the material and getting the most from the players
Discussions with each of the principal players on their own unique considerations and/or performance matters
      Live streaming of the session
4K video of the session after the fact
      Uncompressed audio of the session

  2. I bet many people would like it ! I cast my vote, but I do think it would be a great class. It's just I've recorded dozens of string sections before.

  3. Sounds great Mike.

Would be happy to buy into this, but would have to watch later as usual, due to timezone differences.

  4. I'm game. Regarding the notation, could you go into some of the film-score specific notation and (if there's a reason) why it differs from what a regular orchestra would see on the page?

  5. I'm in as well. Depending when it is, I can't attend (in the middle of the night here, you know ;-)

    Sound's cool. I'm in!
    But...
    1. As usual I probably won't be able to attend live - in Europe it will be 3-4am Saturday morning... Too late to keep myself awake and too early to wake up... Or something will pop up last second.
    2. I'll need to wait with purchase until October.

  7. Not sure I would be able to tune in live, depends when the session happens. But I would love to contribute even just to hear this played by live players!

  8. Definitely up for that.

  9. Price is right and I'm sure most of us are happy (just) to help you get this recorded live.

I'm with Krzyzsztof though, probably not attending live. 4am start is such an awkward time if you need a 'functioning' brain...
I remember fuck all from the couple night classes I've sat in on (could be the booze too?), but if it's a question of crowdfunding the money to make it happen I'll pay up front.

Any idea when this would happen? This / Next Month?
I'd probably have to plan somewhat to make the purchase happen but I'll work it out

  10. Am I missing something? Everyone keeps talking about the 4 AM GMT start. Who records live orchestra at 8 PM? :D

Wouldn't the session be before/after noon?

  11. Oh my god, ONLY the idea of getting to watch a class like this has made my entire day! I would be paying for it SO FAST! Hell, I would be paying right now!
The piece of music is fantastic, you get to listen to what went through your mind while composing it, you get to listen to the LIVE PERFORMANCE by world class players AND you get to hear the comments of these fantastic professional players+conductor.

HOW CAN YOU SAY NO? :D

This is an incredible idea and it makes me feel so happy that it might happen! Big thumbs up, Mike!

  12. No you're absolutely right.. no time has been mentioned and that wouldn't make a lot of sense.

  13. Yes I would think we'd do a morning session for maximum compatibility.

I think for something like this a crowdfunding type approach might be best where it either happens the right way or nobody's obligated any money... that kind of thing.

  14. Sounds good, I better get started transcribing..!

  15. And for those of us that live in the area, how about a live f2f meet and greet.
I'm sure we would all be willing to be very quiet.
At some point in time though how about some interactive, hands-on f2f classes?
    Just a thought.

  16. I am so up for this. It would be so interesting to get to hear from some of the players too.

Not too sure about the need for 4k though - will it be filmed in VertaVision (TM) ?

  17. We just default to 4K when actually shooting stuff. My girl's a cinematographer, so it comes with the territory....

  18. I'm in, and for what you want to include, would gladly pay more than $60. I have no exact idea what it would cost to get full strings and a venue lined up, but I bet at least $500 for the venue and what, $300 per musician, for say 8+6+4+4+2 would be $7,200 for the musicians, plus conductor, say at least $8,000.

Maybe you should charge $100 each for this one.

  19. Hopefully it works out better this time around, and doesn't result in an off-camera blind fit of rage. :)

  20. For something like this we'd shoot on an actual production camera, an Arri Alexa, most likely.
