No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

First Piece in New House

Discussion in 'Critique & Feedback' started by Duncan Formosa, Sep 8, 2022.

  1. I've always lived in a very busy house (family of 7) and just recently I've moved out and bought a house.

As I sat in my room last night thinking about how quiet everything was and that it was just me with a house to myself I came up with this short little piece.

  2. It's a nice piece. And congrats to the house!

Have you considered bringing it past AABA and develop it further? Would be interesting what you will come up with

  3. Thanks Michael!

I do have a bad habbit of staying safe with the AABA structure I'm not going to lie. It's playing it a little safe. I think I'm good with coming up with 1 main idea and then I get really worried where to take it afterwards without it feeling like the piece is over staying it's welcome. But I would like to develop the idea a little more. I think it has potential

  4. I wouldn't say that it's a bad habbit. It's a good habbit! AABA is good for the listener. I was just wondering if you could or want to develop it further. That's what I struggle with currently. How to develop 4 bars over and over. It's a fun challenge!

What I like to do is think of a Story and then make the theme fit to that. Start with AAB then present a farther out developed A. Follow the story arch and at the end present your final, most awesome A you have come up with (or what ever the story demands)
It's basically like AABA, but think of the B as being multiple variations of A.
So in the end you are doing the same thing, but you are extending the journey for the listener.
