1. Didja accidentally blow through the whole, "We're using our real names" thing on registration? No problem, just send me (Mike) a Conversation message and I'll get you sorted, by which I mean hammered-into-obedient-line because I'm SO about having a lot of individuality-destroying, oppressive shit all over my forum.

Lost and found-testing testing Spitfire's BBC SO Discover

Discussion in 'Critique & Feedback' started by Niko Tompuri, May 23, 2020.

  1. Hi there and greetings from Finland!

I hope you're feeling well despite the Corona-lockdown.

I wanted to share this track with you. I guess it's musically really nothing special but anyway...
This is mostly Spitfire's BBC SO Discover-edition, despite the oboe and some trumpet layering. I think overall the library sounds pretty good.

  2. It's a nice little piece :) I like it. Structure-wise I think the C section (the strings one), although it sounds good, doesn't really fit so well into the rest of the piece.

But it would be interesting to hear what your intentions were or your thoughts behind making this piece. That would make it easier to give more specific feedback.

  3. Thanks Marian for your response! Glad you liked it.

The starting point for this piece was simply to test the sample library. I was inspired by the sounds, especially the brass and tuned percussion and started improvising. I nearly always write the first draft really quickly trying to let the ideas come out as they are. That was the case with this piece also.

I wrote the C-part without having a particular harmonic concept or in mind. I don't know why I started playing in that scale with Eb and Bb in it. It does sound a bit of but I don't know is it due the shortness (or too fast transitions between the parts) of the piece or should abandon the C-part completely and write something new.
